February 27, 2012 - Michael Moreno and his younger brother, James, volunteered to join the US Navy in 1965 and served together on the USS Renville and USS Valley Forge through 1967. While aboard these vessels, Michael Moreno worked throughout the ships, but particularly in the engine rooms, evaporator rooms, and other areas below decks. Sadly, Michael was diagnosed with mesothelioma in June 2009 and died exactly eighteen months after the date of his diagnosis.

February 22, 2012 - In a landmark decision issued today, the New York Supreme Court held that a federal statute does not block a plaintiff’s right to sue for her asbestos-related injury under New York law. The decision marks the first time that this issue has been decided in a state court, and is a monumental victory for similarly-situated plaintiffs who wish to bring an asbestos lawsuit in New York state courts.

February 9, 2012 - Last week, Levy Phillips & Konigsberg, LLP ("LPK"), scored a legal victory for the family of a veteran of the United States Navy and, at the same time, protected the rights of veterans nationwide suffering from asbestos-related diseases. The victory came after two large military contractors, Westinghouse Corporation (now owned by CBS) and General Electric filed a first of its kind motion asking a federal court to dismiss a claim of a Navy veteran before any evidence could even be presented.

January 11, 2012 - LPK has recently filed an asbestos lawsuit in the City of St. Louis, Missouri, on behalf of a retired automobile mechanic and his wife of 52 years. The plaintiff, recently diagnosed with mesothelioma, was exposed to asbestos during the 1950s through the 1980s while performing auto repair work including brake and clutch repair, general automotive repair involving replacement of asbestos-containing gaskets, as well as mufflers lined with asbestos. He was also exposed to asbestos from joint compound/joint cement while performing drywall work on various homes during this time period.

January 4, 2012 - Stop Mesothelioma, a Facebook page created and sponsored by Levy Phillips & Konigsberg LLP ("LPK"), has raised another $10,000 for mesothelioma research and efforts to ban asbestos. This brings the current total to over $50,000 based on LPK’s pledge to donate $1 for every "Like" the page receives up to $100,000. LPK has donated the most recent $10,000 to the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization ("ADAO"), a leading non-profit organization dedicated to giving a voice to victims of asbestos-related diseases.

December 28, 2011 - Brendan J. Tully, a mesothelioma attorney from the law firm of Levy Phillips & Konigsberg, LLP ("LPK"), recently won a $2.5 Million verdict for the family of the late Lloyd "Barry" Benton, a Vietnam veteran, who died from mesothelioma at the age of 56. The trial was against John Crane Inc., a multi-national company that made and sold asbestos products that Mr. Benton used in the Navy and throughout his career as a union pipefitter.

Rodriguez of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey ruled that a bi-state commuter railroad cannot remove an asbestos victim’s state-based mesothelioma lawsuit simply because the railroad runs between two states.

December 20, 2011 - The mesothelioma lawsuit of a retired flooring mechanic is now assigned to a judge for a jury trial in New York City. During a career that spanned over 30 years, the plaintiff installed flooring, including asbestos-containing floor tiles and linoleum. As a result of being exposed to the asbestos contained in those products, he has recently been diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma, a deadly cancer caused by asbestos exposure.

December 16, 2011 - Elizabeth Henderson and her son, Bruce Henderson, worked in their family's automotive shops in Louisiana between the 1950s and 1980s. During that period, both had significant exposure to asbestos-containing gaskets and clutches manufactured by Dana Companies LLC and Zoom Performance Products. As result, both died of mesothelioma in 2008 and 2010, respectively.

October 14, 2011 - Louisiana mesothelioma attorneys from the nationally acclaimed law firm of Levy Phillips & Konigsberg, LLP, have filed mesothelioma lawsuits on behalf of several Westbank area residents who were exposed to asbestos produced at the Johns-Manville facility in Marrero, LA.
