The Kulig Family Honors Their Brother’s Memory By Raising Awareness about Mesothelioma and Raising Funds to Support Research Toward a Cure

Hundreds of people are expected to gather for the 3rd annual Norm Kulig 2Young2Go Foundation Get the Lead Out Race, which is to take place on April 2, 2011, at the Wissahickon High School in Ambler, Pennsylvania. The event raises money for the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, a non-profit organization that funds research for treatment and cure for mesothelioma, and the University of Pennsylvania Lung Center, a medical research facility working on finding a cure for mesothelioma. NEW YORK, New York, March 23, 2011 - On Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the Wissahickon High School in Ambler, Pennsylvania, at least 800 people are expected to gather for the 3rd annual Norm Kulig 2Young2Go Foundation Get the Lead Out Race, a 5K/10K race and a 1 Mile Walk in honor of the memory of Norm Kulig, who passed away at the age of 42 from mesothelioma. The organizers of the event are the family of Norm Kulig, who have channeled their family’s grief into creating this remarkable event to raise money for mesothelioma research.

Norm Kulig was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2002 and, after a long and courageous struggle, passed away in April of 2004 at the age of 42. Norm was an ex-marine and an avid athlete who had on occasion run marathons. For the 5th anniversary of Norm’s passing, Norm’s four siblings and their spouses decided that a race would be a good way to honor him while also being a good avenue for raising funds to support research and for raising awareness about mesothelioma risks in the Ambler, PA, area.

The first 2Young2Go Foundation race was held on April 24, 2009. Almost 400 runners participated, and the event raised over $10,000. This year’s run is expected to be the biggest yet both in number of participants and in money raised for the cause. The funds raised each year support the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (MARF), a 501(c)(3) organization that funds research to improve the treatment available to mesothelioma patients and to find a cure for this disease, as well as the University of Pennsylvania Lung Center, a medical research facility working on finding a cure for mesothelioma.
